Communication and interaction with both Non-Player and Player characters

When you meet another being, player or NPC, you can introduce yourself to them. If they didn’t know you so far, then they’ll remember you with the name you introduced with. With introduce you can also set your introduce-name, title and pretitle. If you meet someone who doesn’t introduce, you can remember him/her manually with remember [Name]. To list all persons you have met recently and didn’t remember, use the command remember. To list all persons you have met in your life and who you remembered, use recall.

To talk to people, you can use either a say or tell. Both are heard by anyone in the same room with you. But tell is directed to a certain person while say isn’t. With ask you can direct questions to certain players or NPCs. Unlike in most other Muds, the command shout is not a global tell and heard by all other players. It is just a normal shout, heard in the same room you are in, and all adjacent rooms to it.

If you want to say something Out Of Character (OOC, means that the player behind the character wants to say something, and not the character himself) use the command @say.

3. Combat

Some tips to stay alive in a violent world….

Before you start combat, you should set your wimpy and mood. Of course you can also set it while you fight, but you might lack the time to do so. Wimpy allows you to automatically flee from a fight when you are badly wounded. It is set as a percentage of your total hit points. Mood sets how aggressive or defensive you fight.

Aim is a skill and enables you to aim at specific body-parts of your enemy, which can be very useful if, for example, an enemy is lacking armour to cover a specific part. Protect on the other side is the opposite of aim. With protect you can select those parts of your body which you’ll try to protect especially well.

When you are ready to fight, you can attack your enemy with the command kill. But know that in the beginning you should be very careful with attacking enemies. Easy opponents are small animals, like rabbits, hares or foxes. After you have practiced with them, you might consider dealing with tougher opponents. If you appraise them you might get a general idea of how strong they might be compared to you.

After a fight, either you won or ran away, you might be badly wounded and maybe even bleeding. Since bloodloss can kill you, you should aid yourself. Aid is also a skill which has to be practiced. A low aid skill can cause critical fumbles which make your wounds bleed even more.

4. Important miscellaneous commands

Help <commandname> gives you further information and examples about the usage of most commands in the game. Help without argument lists all commands of which help files exist.

You can get (take) and drop items. You can also look (abbr: l) at all objects. A synonym of look is examine (abbr: exa).

Weapons and armours in your possession you can wield and wear. To remove them, use unwield for weapons and remove for armours.

If you’re wounded, you can either rest or sleep. Both states make you recover from your injury faster. You can stand up again while resting or wake while sleeping.

You can drink water from various fountains, wells, lakes or rivers. If you’re hungry you can eat fruit, meat from killed and butchered animals or rations you bought in a pub.

To list all players you know and who are currently online, you can use the command who. Those you didn’t already meet and don’t know their name won’t be listed.

If you want to write/read Out-Of-Character notes or if you want to set the learn-distribution of your stats (strength, intelligence etc.), go to the OOC-area. To do that, simply type ooc and wait.

To set a shortcut for a command you use often, see alias.

Basic Commands This lists some of the more important commands to get you underway.
